Mushrooms by Roger Phillips
Introduced by Anne Brichto of Addyman Books, Hay-on-Wye
Sunday brunch celebrates mushrooms and is for my son, Thorne, who loves mushroom foraging and is coming back for a visit this week. For today’s Bookseller’s Breakfast I am eating Alex Gooch’s rye bread with Emma – Farmhouse Food’s delicious mushroom and tarragon pate – perfect with a twist of lemon. You can buy these in Hay on Thursday market day. Emma’s soup is also delicious.
The books are two early mushroom identifiers with gorgeous yet quite gruesome coloured plates, the King Penguin Edible Mushrooms and Andre Simon’s classic mushroom recipe book. I have also included the Faber edition of Sylvia Plath’s The Colossus because I love the cover with its appropriate woodcut.
If you are picking mushrooms this Autumn please get yourselves Roger Phillips’s big paperback guide – it is the best.
