Some Thoughts on Education by John Locke (first edition, first issue, published 1693)
Introduced by Anne Brichto of Addyman Books, Hay-on-Wye
It feels like showing off but here on my lap is a first edition, first issue of John Locke’s Some Thoughts on Education from 1693 which we bought today.
I have just catalogued it and hopefully we will upload it to our website by the end of the week.
It has three first issue points which involve a skewed woodcut emblem to the title page, a catchword “I my” and a misspelling “Patronnge” to the dedication pages.
Mr Addyman correctly identified that this was indeed a true first and I have spent a very happy hour describing it and comparing it to the one other copy available in Canada.
Books like this do not come in everyday.
