A Kestral for a Knave

A Kestral for a Knave (Kes) by Barry Hines

Introduced by Anne Brichto of Addyman Books, Hay-on-Wye

The great Barry Hines has died.

Here are three of the iconic covers of THE BOOK.

I am sometimes stuck in a hot tub or sauna with people who don’t read. They ask what I do and I tell them. They then say they don’t read books, never much for reading but they did read one book once that they liked. Don’t tell me I say It was Kes (A Kestrel for a Knave). They think I’m a mind-reader but it is easy. It is the one book we did at school that everyone loved and could relate to. The 1969 film was also excellent and I have seen a few good school play versions too.
