Un Nos Ola Leuad by Caradog Prichard
Introduced by Jon Gower (in Welsh)
In 2014 Wales Arts Review declared Un Nos Ola Leuad / One Moonlit Night the Greatest Welsh Novel, following 12 months of discussion, debate and a public vote. Here Jon Gower (in English) writes about the winning title:
Jon Gower has written more than 20 books in both the English and Welsh languages. He was one of two inaugural Hay International Fellows established by the Hay Festival. In 2012 he won Wales Book of the Year prize in the Welsh Language Fiction category for Y Storiwr, published by Gomer.
Jon Gower on a life shaped by stories:
I became a writer because of my grandfather, Thomas John Gower. He was a feisty coal miner and was pretty ancient even when I was a very young boy. Tough as boots, clear-eyed dadcu was a mesmerising storyteller, and, boy, had he tales to tell … It was through him I learned the sheer satisfaction of listening to a story well told.
